For thirty years now, I’ve worked on the problems that show up where business, people, and technology meet.

For over two decades, that work was Security Catalyst.

Over time, I started seeing the same problems underneath very different situations.

They weren’t always security problems.

Sometimes the work wasn’t clear. Sometimes the wrong people were solving the wrong thing. Sometimes good work was invisible. Sometimes the decision was stuck, the signal got lost, or the value was hard to see.

Different situation. Same underlying problem.

As the work expanded, the name changed with it. What began as Security Catalyst evolved into ValueSmith.

While the name changed, security is still in my DNA.

I still work with security leaders, and all that experience still shapes how I see the problem, the people involved, and what’s happening around them.

The difference now is that I’m building around those recurring problems on purpose.

ValueSmith is where that work goes next.
